Billy Drease Williams - “Shut the Gate” ft. Richie English

~Zumi Underground

Billy Drease Williams drops a solid flow over a beautiful melody provided by Richie English in one of the most confusing, mixed signal pep talks for mending a broken heart I’ve ever heard. It’s incredibly pleasant to listen to acoustically, but I have to admit I get some emotional whiplash listening to it with lyrics such as:

“What don’t kill you makes you weaker….if it ain’t life or death, it ain’t that bad….take my advice be glad it’s done. She’ll leave you twice if she left you once.”

And then in the video the little boy is all ‘happily ever after’ with the little girl. But maybe that’s him moving on from his first love. I kid, I kid…the message is clear enough and I am always glad to get more of that sweet sweet piano melody in the interlude after the second chorus with my man Richie mashin the keys and rockin that popped collar.
