Tom Misch - “It Runs Through Me” Ft. De La Soul

~O.K. Nawa

This collaboration between Tom Misch and “Posdnuos” (literally “Sound Sop” spelled backwards) of De La Soul is a wonderfully bouncy Ode to Music.  You’re probably familiar with De La Soul through “Me, Myself & I” and just don’t realize it. A relative greenhorn, Tom Misch is an English musician with this song featured on his 2018 album, Geography. This smooth track is a blend of samba, jazz, and hip-hop that takes you to the warm, sunny scenescape of a far away land. The track builds up with a chorus of instrumentals until Misch introduces himself and, later, the bass line:

“She told me add a bass line

And everything will be alright

She told me that the groove is mine

It will take us through the night

And where I’ll go

Can’t explain I’ll never know”

Posdnuos later unwraps his usual rhyming eloquence and brings a close to the ode:

“This music, it launched me

With no aim, I've landed with some plane

Where I am I can't explain or never know

But it's beautiful so…”

This track is a great addition to a family friendly party playlist.
