Jacob Tillberg - “Ghosts”

~Zumi Underground

Following up JVNA’s “Ghost”, we have Jacob Tillberg’s “Ghosts” (plural!) to perhaps add to your Halloween party playlist.

“Ghosts” has a fun future house (which to me is like a pop EDM) beat with actually pretty melancholy lyrics. I’m not 100% sure if the person who is no longer with Tillberg just left him or is actually dead. Probably the former, but the only thing that makes me question whether she’s dead is the line “Hope to see you later when I get older” which kinda strikes me as a ‘see you in the afterlife’ type of deal. Either way, Tillberg is doing his best to cope throughout the song despite fleeting apparitions of his past love. There really aren’t that many unique lines of lyrics in the song, but to me it feels like Tillberg is able to do so much with so little.

Despite that previous paragraph, the track still gives me feel good vibes because the beat is just that damn fun! It’s got such a great bounce with that bass-y synth-y piano in the chorus that gets me in the Halloween party spirit. It’s like a party spoopy sound. And of course, the drop in this track just HITS!

Tillberg actually has another version of this song that’s a a bit more on the haunting, heavy side. His vocals are definitely more pained and the percussion is much heavier. Very much worth a listen as well!
