Marcus D & Pismo - “Hit the Crowd”

~Zumi Underground

One of my favorite producers, Marcus D, just released a collaboration with emcee Pismo this past Friday. I wanted to get a couple days to digest the full album before I did a post so I’m sorry for holding out on y’all. Selfish, I know.

“Hit the Crowd” is the first song on the album and man…the track title is so appropriate. It hits in all the right places throughout the track. Classic jazz hop beat that Marcus D tends to gravitate to that I can’t get enough of. That sax adds such a nice groove layer and got me playing the air sax at my desk over here.

I’m always happy just listening to Marcus D’s instrumentals, but Pismo’s vocals add so much extra swagger to the song. Just the simple “keep on; okay” part—I have no other word for it; it just exudes swagger. I remember hearing Pismo on a Nomak produced track years ago and thought he had such a knack for finding just the right bounce in a track to sync his vocals to and it continues to hold true here on “Hit the Crowd”.

I hope y’all enjoy “Hit the Crowd” and it gets you bouncing and be sure to check out the rest of the album as well!
