The HU - “Sad But True”

~Zumi Underground

Any metal fan out there has heard of Metallica and has probably heard their “Sad But True”, but I don’t know how many of you have a heard a cover of it quite like this (except for the 11 million people who already have…or maybe the 1 person who watched it 11 million times on their own).

The HU is a Mongolian band that blends rock and folk music and even gets down with some metal. And yes, they do Mongolian throat singing (and yes again, even when they do metal). They also use traditional Mongolian string instruments, the Morin khuur, the Tovshuur (yes, I wiki’d these and linked them for your convenience as well (I seriously hope y’all are actually silently asking these questions that I’m pompously preemptively answering “yes” to)) in addition to typical rock instruments.

Anyway…this cover is sick. The original is rife with attitude and edge (before being an “edgelord” was a playful insult) and The HU skillfully preserved all of that while adding in some of the unique sounds of their Mongolian folk music background.
